Constitution Yards Hits the Brakes

Constitution Yards on hold, Don’t miss these DE concerts, DeSean Jackson Joins DSU

Rise and shine, 302—on May 25, 1986, nearly 6.5 million people joined hands to form a human chain across the U.S. for Hands Across America. From New York to California, folks stood shoulder to shoulder (well, almost—there were a few gaps) to raise money for hunger and homelessness. It was part charity, part spectacle, and 100% peak ’80s energy.

📬 New schedule, same great stuff.

Starting this week, you'll get full Above the Canal editions every Monday and Thursday by 6 AM — packed with Northern Delaware's best.

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, we’ll send quick-hit event lists to keep you in the loop without the extra noise.

Less clutter. Just the good stuff. 💥

Your 302 Rundown:

  • Constitution Yards Still Closed

  • 30+ Big Acts, One Small State

  • DSU Taps NFL Vet as Head Coach

Let’s get to it

NEWS YOU CAN USE

🎸 Constitution Yards isn’t quite ready yet

Bummer alert — Constitution Yards still isn’t open, and all events have been removed from their calendar through August 1. They shared on Instagram that they’re still working to get things ready, but didn’t give a timeline just yet.

We’ll miss the live music and lawn games for now, but we’re pumped to see what the new location has in store. Stay tuned — it’s gonna be good.

🎶 Star-studded summer in the First State

Get ready to jam — The News Journal just dropped a guide to 30+ can’t-miss concerts across Delaware this summer. We’re talking Pat Benatar, The Beach Boys, Counting Crows, Brothers Osborne, and yes, even Kevin Bacon (with his brother, of course).

Venues like the Freeman Arts Pavilion and Bottle & Cork are packing their lineups with everything from blues and country to punk and a cappella. Some shows are already close to selling out, so don’t snooze on tickets.

If you needed an excuse to plan a girls' night or date night under the stars, this is it. Delaware’s bringing the noise in the best way.

🏈 DeSean Jackson takes the helm at DSU

Delaware State just got a serious upgrade — DeSean Jackson is the Hornets’ new head coach, and yes, that DeSean Jackson. After 15 seasons in the NFL, he’s bringing his speed, swagger, and star power to Dover.

He’s not coming alone either — he’s also bringing in other former pros to round out his staff. Jackson says he’s focused on culture, discipline, and turning DSU into an HBCU powerhouse.

It’s a bold new era for Hornets football — and we’re here for it.

IN BUSINESS

🛒 Dollar General opens in Newark

Another day, another Dollar General — this time in Newark. The discount chain just opened a new location, adding to its ever-growing footprint in Delaware. Locals can expect the usual mix of affordable groceries, home goods, and seasonal steals.

Love it or leave it, Dollar General is all about convenience — and for Newark folks looking to stretch a buck, it’s now even closer to home.

🌟 Meet Delaware’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2025

The Delaware Business Times just revealed its DBT40 Class of 2025—a powerhouse lineup of young professionals making waves across the First State. This year’s honorees span industries from healthcare to hospitality, with standout names like Felicia Harrington (University of Delaware), Bobby Jones (Bright Side Roofing), and Anastasia Jackson (Delaware Division of Small Business).

The 2025 class is the most diverse in recent years, with 22% of honorees identifying as minorities. With 120 applicants—the largest pool in four years—it’s clear Delaware’s next-gen leaders are stepping up.

Want to meet them? The DBT40 awards ceremony is set for September 24 at The Waterfall in Claymont. Tickets are on sale now.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

🚌 DelDOT’s “Bus Bridge” Plan

SEPTA’s looming budget cuts could leave Delaware commuters stranded, but DelDOT is gearing up with a potential solution. If SEPTA axes its Wilmington/Newark line by January 2026, DelDOT is considering a “bus bridge” — a shuttle service to keep folks moving between northern Delaware and Center City Philly. DART First State is exploring how to make it happen, though it won’t be a perfect swap for the train.

With 2,900 daily riders on the line, losing service could mean a lot more cars — and traffic — on I-95. Governor Meyer is pushing to preserve the rail connection, calling it vital to the region’s economy and quality of life. Still, DelDOT is prepping just in case.

If you rely on SEPTA, keep an eye on this — it could change your commute in a big way.
