Driving restrictions are expected, with three levels in place to ensure safety. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the Delaware Emergency Notification System for updates and to prepare their homes and vehicles with essential supplies.

🥛 Wawa recalls milk over plastic risk
Wawa convenience stores have issued a recall for several milk products due to the potential presence of soft plastic pieces. The recall affects 16-ounce bottles of Wawa Dutch Chocolate Milk, Wawa Chocolate Milk, Wawa Cookies N Cream Milk, and Wawa Two Percent Reduced Fat Milk. These products were sold across Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
The bottles in question have a printed date of March 2nd, 2026, or March 5th for the two percent milk. While no cases of plastic pieces have been reported in the milk sold, Wawa has taken this precautionary step to ensure customer safety. Shoppers are advised to check their purchases and return any affected products to the store for a refund or replacement. Wawa aims to resolve the issue promptly and maintain customer trust.
💉 Delaware issues measles vaccine alert
Delaware residents exposed to measles are advised to get the MMR vaccine within 72 hours if they are not fully vaccinated. Vaccines are available at pharmacies and primary care facilities, but it's best to call ahead to confirm availability. If you're showing symptoms, contact health authorities or your healthcare provider for guidance.
The MMR vaccine has been proven safe and effective, with a 97% efficacy rate for those who have received both doses. It's recommended for children to get their first dose between 12 and 15 months and a second dose between 4 and 6 years. Adults can also get vaccinated at various health centers across the state.
People born before 1957 or those with confirmed immunity are generally considered protected. However, if you're unsure of your vaccination status, check your records or consult your healthcare provider. Measles is highly contagious and can lead to severe complications, so timely vaccination is crucial.
🚗 Wilmington DMV reopening with appointments
The Wilmington DMV is set to reopen its doors on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. After a temporary closure, the facility will now operate by appointment only, aiming to better manage customer flow. This change comes as the DMV prepares to welcome back patrons following last December's tragic event.
While Wilmington is shifting to an appointment-based system, other DMV locations in Delaware City, Dover, and Georgetown will continue to offer walk-in services. Details on how to schedule appointments will be released as the reopening date nears.
The DMV appreciates the community's patience and support during this transition. Keep an eye out for further updates as the reopening approaches.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
📊 Delaware property reassessment insights shared
Spotlight Delaware’s Editor-in-Chief Jacob Owens discussed Delaware's first property reassessment in over 40 years on the "Beyond the Headlines" podcast. The project, in collaboration with Tech Impact, produced an interactive map revealing shifts in tax burdens and property assessments across the state.
The map, using census precinct data, highlights significant changes in property values and tax burdens, particularly in New Castle County. While Sussex and Kent counties showed expected changes, New Castle County's results raised questions about equitable tax distribution.
The reassessment, prompted by a lawsuit for educational equity, aimed to update outdated property values. However, the data revealed unexpected tax increases in lower-income areas, sparking discussions among local leaders about the fairness and effectiveness of the process. The project underscores the need for ongoing examination of Delaware's property assessment practices.
📱 Delaware schools tighten phone rules
Delaware's legislature has passed a bill requiring all school districts and charters to establish policies limiting cellphone use during class time, now awaiting Governor Matt Meyer's signature. As Spotlight Delaware reports, the Christina School District has already launched a pilot program at five schools, requiring students to lock their phones in pouches during the school day.
This pilot program replaces previous, less strict cellphone bans. The district will evaluate the program's success and cost before deciding on a broader implementation. Senate Bill 106, which motivated this update, mandates that schools statewide set consequences for phone policy violations, while allowing exceptions for emergencies.
Governor Meyer is expected to sign the bill into law by the end of March, setting a uniform standard for cellphone use in Delaware schools. Other districts may follow Christina's lead in updating their policies.
