Do you worry that your dog is not getting enough exercise, attention, or social interaction during the day? Even dogs with people home can end up under-stimulated, restless, or bursting with unused energy.
At The Doggie Playhouse, that worry is exactly what daycare is designed to solve. Dogs spend their day in supervised playgroups with other friendly dogs, guided by experienced staff who know when to encourage play, redirect behavior, or slow things down. Group sizes stay intentionally manageable, so dogs are never overlooked or overwhelmed.
Between play sessions, dogs get rest time, structure, and calm routines that help them feel secure and balanced. The result is a dog who is mentally engaged, physically exercised, and far more relaxed at home.
If you want your dog to come home happy and tired, learn more or book a visit at thedoggieplayhouse.com.

🏛️ Delaware Law School Plans Downtown Move
Widener’s Delaware Law School is packing up its suburban campus and looking downtown. The current site is officially up for sale, while the university eyes a spot in Wilmington’s growing higher-ed hub. No final address yet, but the plan is to bring students closer to Delaware’s legal action and professional scene.
A city campus could mean easier access to internships, clerkships, and coffee breaks within walking distance of courthouses. Stay tuned for what fills the old lot—and where exactly Widener lands.
IN BUSINESS
🍴 Sizzling Bites and Jersey Mike's Join DE Food Scene
Two new restaurants are coming to Delaware. The old Stone Balloon space on Newark's Main Street is getting another revival, this time from a fast-growing Pennsylvania halal chain called Sizzling Bites. The menu includes gyros, chicken platters, mac and cheese, and burgers, all served up fast with bold flavor. The chain already has locations in Scranton, Reading, and Easton, with State College coming soon.
Meanwhile, High 5 Hospitality (the group behind Buffalo Wild Wings and Eggspectation) just opened a Jersey Mike’s in Bear. It moved into a former Capriotti’s spot near Sunset Plaza. Two chains, two new homes, all in one Delaware update.
🏫 Wilm U Buys Big in North Wilmington
Wilmington University just made a major move upstate. The school is buying two large office buildings and nearly 40 acres off Concord Pike near the PA line to expand its Brandywine campus. One building went for $12.5 million, and a second deal is expected to close later this year.
This gives Wilm U over half a million square feet of space for future growth—just as construction costs for new buildings continue to climb. The Brandywine site already hosts the new law school and classes in tech, health, business, and education. More elbow room means more opportunity.
👁️ Simon Eye expands to Elkton location
Simon Eye Associates, a Delaware-based eye care provider, has acquired Cecil Vision Care in Elkton, Maryland, marking its eleventh location. This expansion extends their services from southern Pennsylvania through Delaware into Maryland, offering Elkton residents enhanced access to comprehensive optometry and eyewear options.
Cecil Vision Care's long-time owner, Dr. Mary K. Hutton, remains on board alongside new team member Dr. Brian Johnson, ensuring the continued delivery of personal, high-quality eye care services. The acquisition allows Simon Eye to bring in new clinical expertise and technology while maintaining the trust and familiarity valued by patients.
For Elkton families, this means seamless continuity in eye care with established providers. Existing appointments will remain intact, ensuring minimal disruption for patients seeking routine and medical eye care in the community.
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
💡 Delmarva seeks $70M rate hike
Delmarva Power is looking to increase its electric rates, potentially affecting Delaware residents' bills starting July 2026. The requested hike of $67.8 million would result in higher monthly charges for both non-heating and space-heating customers.
Local lawmakers are split on the causes of this increase, with debates focusing on green energy mandates and infrastructure investments. Meanwhile, Delmarva Power argues that the additional funds are crucial to upgrade the grid and meet growing energy demands.
The proposed rate change highlights the ongoing struggle to balance affordability and reliable energy supply in Delaware. Residents can expect a formal review and public hearings before the Public Service Commission reaches a decision.
💉 Delaware sues over insulin pricing
Spotlight Delaware reports Delaware's Attorney General Kathy Jennings is taking legal action against major pharmaceutical companies and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), accusing them of inflating insulin and GLP-1 drug prices. The lawsuit claims these actions have cost Delaware patients and the state's health plan millions, affecting the affordability of essential diabetes medications.
This matter affects many Delawareans who depend on insulin and newer drugs like Ozempic for diabetes and weight management. The state alleges this price manipulation violates consumer protection laws and is asking for restitution. As healthcare costs rise, this lawsuit seeks to address unfair practices impacting the community. Stay tuned as this legal battle unfolds in the Delaware Court of Chancery.
📱 Delaware cell phone school bill progresses
Delaware legislators are moving forward with a bill aimed at restricting student cell phone use in schools. The proposal requires districts and charter schools to develop policies to manage phone use, aiming to improve student focus and behavior. With unanimous House approval and a new amendment, the bill adds a requirement for schools to monitor and report on policy enforcement. This amendment also encourages collaboration by providing model language from the state's Education Department.
If the Senate approves the bill again, it'll head to Governor Matt Meyer for signing. This initiative indicates a statewide push towards creating consistent phone use policies, involving input from educators, parents, and students to determine the best practices.
🏡 Controversial tiny homes face hearing
A proposal to build Arusha Village, a tiny home community, near Robscott Manor is drawing attention as it heads to its first public hearing next week. New Castle County's Historic Review Board is set to discuss the project's impact on the area's historic elements, including the Frazier Farmstead.
Local opposition stems from concerns about traffic, property values, and environmental effects. The developer, Reybold Group, aims for sustainability with solar-powered, energy-efficient homes. The plan has been scaled down to 78 homes, including affordable and senior housing. Despite environmental nods like a community garden, residents worry about habitat loss and neighborhood suitability. The broader approval process will soon involve more county discussions.
