During the annual summer lull in activity, the city is changing up its parking rules for the next few months.
The Newark City Council recently approved free parking on summer weekends. This waiver applies to all municipal spots and lots across the city, allowing drivers to park without paying while they visit the downtown business corridor.
The free weekend parking program runs from June 16 through August 15. After that date, regular parking rates will go back into effect as the city prepares for the fall semester.

📦 Amazon plans two Middletown robotics facilities
Source: Spotlight Delaware
E-commerce giant Amazon recently purchased two tracts of farmland in Middletown for $207 million. The company plans to build two new robotic-centric operations facilities on the site.
The expansion is expected to bring 1,500 jobs to the area and could quadruple the company's local footprint. These new buildings will operate similarly to the Boxwood Road plant, relying heavily on robotics for fulfillment tasks.
An Amazon spokesperson stated there are no current plans to adjust operations at the existing Middletown distribution center. State and local representatives are reviewing how the additional truck volume will affect area roads.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
🏫 Bill caps automatic school tax increases
Source: Newark Post
State lawmakers are considering a new bill that would change how Delaware school districts handle property tax increases. Senate Bill 322, sponsored by Sen. David Sokola, recently passed the Senate Education Committee.
The legislation removes the ability of districts to automatically raise taxes by 10 percent following a property reassessment. Instead, schools could implement an annual tax increase of up to 2 percent without holding a referendum, provided their reserve funds do not exceed 10 percent of annual revenue.
If signed into law, the changes would not take effect until 2031. The bill now heads to the full Senate for consideration.
