POLL RESULTS
🏖️ Delaware wins, but Stone Harbor stole my heart
Delaware Beaches took the crown in our latest poll, no contest. Most of you are tried-and-true Route 1 regulars, with a few outliers repping Jersey, OCMD, or holding out for island time.
But I’ve got a little beach confession. I grew up on Delaware’s beaches, swearing by their charm... until I set foot in Stone Harbor. The sand? Softer. The slope? Gentle and walk-right-in easy. None of those steep, awkward drop-offs we’re used to down state. And not a jellyfish in sight, since they all roll out of the warm bay and head south in the currents. I’m not saying I’m switching teams, but I’m definitely seeing other beaches.
Where do you go when it's time to hit the beach?

NONPROFITS WORTH KNOWING

Face the Facts Delaware: The Wilmington Nonprofit That Shows Up for Families in Crisis
Face the Facts Delaware isn’t your typical nonprofit. It’s scrappy, loud when it needs to be, and 100% rooted in lived experience. Founder Penny Rogers launched it after losing her son, Vincent, to an overdose in 2017. Her goal? Break the silence, train people to use Narcan, and fight the stigma that keeps too many families suffering in secret.
Now based in Wilmington, the group hosts free trainings, school and community outreach, and monthly support meetings (second Thursdays, 6:30 PM at Redemption Treatment Center). And their biggest effort, Overdose Awareness Day, returns Saturday, Sept. 13 at Delcastle Recreational Park. Expect 100+ exhibitors, free resources, music, food, and one big message: you're not alone, and help is real.
One of their most impactful efforts? The Vincent Tambourelli Family Assistance Fund, which helps grieving families cover cremation costs. It’s the only program of its kind in Delaware, and it exists because no one should have to crowdfund dignity.
Behind it all is a volunteer board that’s been there, lived it, and shows up every day with heart, hustle, and Narcan in hand.
