🦽 Alapocas Run rolls out free track chairs
Source: WDEL
Alapocas Run State Park recently became the latest spot in Delaware to offer all-terrain track chairs for visitors. The state funded the new equipment to help people with mobility challenges navigate the local trails.
The rugged chairs are available to use completely free of charge. Local officials noted the park is a practical location for the program because it sits close to Nemours, the Mary Campbell Center, and the Ronald McDonald House.
The state parks department first introduced the track chair program at White Clay Creek State Park two years ago. The new devices at Alapocas Run are ready for visitors who require assistance.

Eleven Delaware restaurants earned recognition in the recently announced Wine Spectator awards. The annual list highlights establishments with thoughtfully curated wine programs and a minimum of 350 top selections.
La Fête on Concord Pike took home a Best of Excellence Award, making it the only Delaware spot to reach that specific tier. Other local winners included Caffé Gelato in Newark, which has maintained its status since 2005, and Benvenuto in Milford.
The remaining recognized restaurants are located across Wilmington, Newark, and Rehoboth. In the broader Philadelphia region, 68 dining spots received honors this year.
🍣 Blue Sunday begins remodeling former Famous Dave's
Source: Delaware Business Now
Blue Sunday announced plans to open a new location in the former Famous Dave's near the Christiana Town Center. Work crews and dumpsters arrived at the site over the weekend to begin remodeling the large restaurant space, which has sat empty since the barbecue chain departed in 2022.
The regional dining company operates locations in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The menu features Asian-influenced dishes like fried rice and sushi, alongside steaks, seafood, and upscale bar appetizers.
Despite the name, the new restaurant does not serve brunch. It opens daily at 3 PM for dinner service and features a full bar with a happy hour.

The cash prizes are supported by Del-One Federal Credit Union and the county government.
Applications are being accepted through August 10. The competition finale will take place on September 16 at Penn Cinema.
🎸 Live music venue planned for downtown Newark
Source: Newark Post
Wonderland Records owner Demitri Theodoropoulos announced plans to open a dedicated live music venue in downtown Newark. The proposed space, named Stella's, is designed to accommodate up to 300 people and feature both local and national acts.
Current city zoning laws prohibit most standalone entertainment venues. To address this, the Newark Planning Commission recommended approval of zoning changes on Tuesday that would legalize live performance spaces and allow more restaurants to host amplified bands.
The proposed zoning updates now move to the city council for a final decision. If the changes are approved, Theodoropoulos hopes to open the new venue by late fall.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
🔌 Newark advances EV rules for new construction
Source: Newark Post
On Tuesday, the Newark Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend new electric vehicle charging requirements for future construction. The proposed rules would mandate charging infrastructure in new residential and commercial developments across the city.
Under the proposal, newly built single-family homes and townhouses would need wiring for Level 2 chargers, though developers would not have to install the actual stations. New apartment complexes and commercial properties would be required to install active charging stations in 5% of their parking spaces, while new gas stations would need at least four fast chargers.
The ordinance applies only to new construction and does not affect existing buildings. The proposal now heads to the city council for a final vote.
🚕 State tallies 904 sober rides for holidays
Source: State of Delaware News
The Delaware Office of Highway Safety provided 904 subsidized rides home during its holiday enforcement period spanning 2025 and 2026. The state agency offered rideshare vouchers for Lyft and Uber during Thanksgiving Eve, New Year's Eve, St. Patrick's Day, and the recent July Fourth weekend.
Residents claimed the available vouchers within minutes of the program going live online. New Year's Eve saw the highest demand, with 244 rides used out of 450 available vouchers. The initiative relies on funding from local business sponsors to cover the costs.
State officials are currently seeking new business sponsors for the upcoming holiday season.

DOG OF THE WEEK

Say hello to Mr. Meaty 🐾
The name alone deserves a round of applause. Mr. Meaty is a 2-year-old large mixed-breed boy with a big frame and an even bigger heart, and he's looking for someone who gets him. He's not needy or over-the-top. He just wants to be near you, whether that's on the couch while you watch TV or hanging out while you putter around the house. Think of him as the low-drama companion you didn't know you needed.
He's been socializing with other dogs at the shelter and holds his own just fine. And bonus for any veterans reading this: Mr. Meaty qualifies for the Sponsored by Simba Pets for Veterans program, meaning no adoption fee for military veterans adopting a pet 1 year or older.
Head over to Brandywine Valley SPCA at 290 Churchmans Road, New Castle to meet Mr. Meaty before someone else snaps him up.
